The Auditorium and Convention Centre has set a national benchmark in the field of event organizing
El Batel Auditorium and Convention Centre of Cartagena has become an important element for the city and the region largely due to the staff’s commitment to establishing the centre an ambassador of Cartagena, both in the Murcia Region and the rest of the country and even internationally.
El Batel has brought Spain’s most important exhibitions and conventions to Cartagena, promoting and disseminating the city’s attractions and all of the possibilities it has to offer, always aiming to position the city as a destination for conferences and events thanks to its cultural, historical and touristic heritage.
In the coming months El Batel will be present in the cities of Barcelona and Madrid as part of a series of conferences organised together with Forum Business Travel being held 6 October in Barcelona and 8 October in Madrid. They will present the Auditorium and Cartagena to over 150 tour operators at large companies, representing a unique opportunity to showcase the city as a venue to industry experts. Later in November El Batel will also present at the IBTM International Conference on Incentives, Business Travel and Meetings, one of the most important of its kind worldwide.
As a result of intense promotional work, the Auditorium and Conference Centre has seen a steady increase in activity year after year. Since 2012, it has hosted a total of 61 events, with another 100 events held so far in 2015, bringing the eventual total to 268 events.
These events have welcomed a total of 85,000 visitors, professionals from every region of Spain and throughout Europe, as well as other countries like the United States, Latin American countries and even India and Thailand thanks to the international conferences hosted by El Batel. From the 9,000 people in 2012 the number of participants has increased to 31,000 so far in 2015, making this our most successful year, despite still being several months from completion with more than twenty events yet to be held.
In its short existence, El Batel has hosted product presentations and conventions for companies such as Licor 43, Hero, Banco Mare Nostrum, La Caixa, EDP, IBM, Repsol and Grupo Caliche. It has also hosted scientific conferences, including the First National DEATECNONEET Conference, the 15th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, the XXXIX National Paediatric Nephrology Conference and the XVII National Conference and VII International Conference of the Spanish Society of Preventive Medicine, Public Health and Hygiene. Moreover, it has been chosen as the setting for advertising photography and video projects for products by companies like Panasonic, Mercedes Benz, BMW and Roche Bobois thanks to its architectural beauty.
The impressive silhouette of the seaside Auditorium and Convention Centre has led to the building’s recognition on numerous occasions by different architectural awards including the XII Spanish Architecture and Urbanism Biennial in 2013. The building has two main rooms, one with capacity for 1,401 spectators and another with capacity for 444 people. Both inspired by the port and the Mediterranean Sea, they are capable of hosting large conventions and congresses thanks to their modern infrastructure and technology. In addition, El Batel features 7 meeting rooms for smaller meetings that also feature technical equipment as well as a 600 m2 exhibition hall.
